Even a simple glance into the reality of our world will reveal the direction we're headed. There's no hiding it--humanity is dying. Our race is quickly drowning, as if we're being violently pulled down by an invisible anchor. As if we're wasting away because of the effects of an invisible cancer inside of our souls. It's easy to recognize, but sometimes it's hard to diagnose the disease that is killing humanity.
AIDS is running rampant across the globe, killing the bodies of millions of humans. Divorce is at work killing our families and our sense of security. Terrorism is at work building monstrous walls between and within countries and religions and people groups. Prostitution and pornography are killing the souls and the dignity of women. Media is stealing the minds of our children and turning them into entertainment-hungry, creativity-lacking, obese leeches. Eating disorders, teen pregnancy, child soldiers, war, starvation, road rage, genocide, materialism, drug use, alcoholism, murder, rape, tube tops and mini skirts, corvettes, cell phones, the American dream, racism, entitlement, selfishness, and pride, and fear. Entitlement, selfishness, and pride, with fear woven in there as well...these are the driving forces, hurling humanity towards its impending death.
We live on a planet which is dying. Our resources are running out. The earth is only so big. Some day, the oil pumps will run dry, the polar ice caps will melt, there will be no more drinkable water. It's only a matter of time. But I believe that humanity won't make it until that point. We are falling faster than the natural earth. And I believe that Almighty God will return in all of His glory to claim that which is His before all of these things come to an end.
I find hope in that day. But not all of the earth will find hope on that day.
On the day when Jesus returns in all His glory, the earth which has rejected God will find that, in addition to such soul-crushing things as war and starvation and racism and eating disorders, they will be dealing with the wrath of God to on top of it all. This day is coming, and perhaps it is coming sooner than we think. God is alive, and, though it may be hard to see sometimes, He is concerned with the state of the world. He is sovereignly in control, and He is mercifully waiting for the day on which He will reveal His anger and wrath towards idolaters and those reject the truth.

Where there once was a feeling of entitlement, selfishness, pride, and fear, there is now

Joy.
Peace.
Patience.
Kindness.
Goodness.
Gentleness.
Faithfulness.
Self-control.

By the grace of God, He has rescued me from death. He has saved me from living as a dead man on this earth, and He has rescued me from eternal death that would have inevitably come after this world passed away.
I no longer have to fear Almighty God on that day. I can have complete confidence in approaching the holy God because of the righteousness that comes through Christ. And I have the Spirit in me now, working to make me more like Jesus everyday. He is constantly praying on my behalf, and Christ is interceding for me as well. God is for me today and in this life, and one day I will be with Him, and I will be made completely whole. I can't wait for the day when I can uninhibitedly worship God and the day when those fruits of God's Spirit will be made complete inside of me.
Come, Lord Jesus.
